Parenting

Unconditional Parenting: This is the best parenting book I have ever read. I’m so glad my friend shared this recommendation on her Instagram. It has completely changed my perspective on how you should discipline children. A must read and one of the best books of 2018.

The Wonder Weeks: This is one of the best books of 2018 for all parents. I do not regret getting the book after hearing multiple people rave about the application. It is such a valuable resource for new and old parents to have. It is a great guide for the developmental leaps that babies go through predictably at different stages. The book gives you great ideas of how to help your child through these rough stages and reassures you that everything is normal.

I just recently finished the book since my baby is going through his last leap. I wish I would have known about the amazing sleep section in the back to begin with. So, if you get this book make sure you check it out.

Finance

The Total Money Makeover: Dave Ramsey has a wealth of knowledge in regards to paying off debt and becoming financially free. We have implemented some of the baby steps. We’re currently on our way to becoming debt free. One thing we started that I’m sure will be beneficial in the future is an emergency fund. We have learned a lot from this book.

Hit Makers: For anyone looking to start a business, this book shares lots of helpful insights on how certain companies succeeded. I learned a lot of tips on things that I can implement to help improve my likelihood of succeeding. One of my favorite takeaways was information on how that strategic planning during launch periods can make a huge difference in your success.

Unshakable: This book breaks down a lot of information that could be intimidating and difficult to understand into easier to comprehend tips. Tony Robbins interviews the top 50 investors in the world and shares their financial advice. I learned so much about investments from this book. Whether you are very knowledgable on the topic or a newb like me there is something to be gained in one of the best books of 2018. Another great book by Tony Robbins I plan to read in the future is Money Master The Game.

Faith

Falling Free: One of my favorite christian authors. She lives what may seem like a radical life to a lot of people. When I first read this book I knew that she was sharing an important message of how God calls us to live and love others. Ever since I read this I have thought about my neighbors differently and tried to become more intentional about showing hospitality to those around me. Shannan came out with a new book this year that I’m still reading called The Ministry of Ordinary Places which I’m sure will continue to be just as good.

Kisses From Katie: This is one of the best books of 2018. It is an unforgettable story of a family not of blood but that made a commitment to each other. Many can’t or won’t do what Katie has done. Although, if we truly follow the word of God we should see more people living the way she does. Another great book by Katie that I plan to read is Daring to Hope.

One Year of Dinnertime Devotions: I actually found this bargain deal at a Half Price Books sale. We read this pretty much every morning even though it is a dinnertime devotion. We found that by the end of the day we would forget or become busy with the bedtime routine. I love how in just five minutes you can read a devotion with scripture and discussion questions as a family.

Love and Respect: This book offers a relatable perspective on men and women’s perspectives. I teaches how that when we take the time to understand one another we can improve our relationships. Anatomically we are different and think differently. We have different emotional needs that when we put in the effort to meet them for each other our relationships will be strengthened. I love how this book provides scriptures along with factual information.

The Road Back To You: When I kept hearing all about enneagrams this year I had to include this in the best books of 2018. Someone I follow on Instagram recommended this book. It is very informative, and it’s crazy how relatable some of the content can be. This is kind of a like a christian personality type. It helps you understand and highlight your strengths and how to consciously avoid your weaknesses through self awareness.

Praying God’s Word Day By Day: This is another devotional that I found at the book sale. When I remember it just takes a couple minutes to read through the scriptures and prayer. It is always encouraging and seems to be just what I need at that moment for the day.

Health

A Mind Of Your Own: If you haven’t already educated yourself on the danger of prescriptions and drugs this book provides an overview of that. It talks about the benefits of other natural alternatives and how research has shown those methods to be just as effective.

How Not To Die: I love to follow Dr. Greger and learn all about health facts. He is an advocate for the benefits of plant based eating. He has an awesome app that I love to use called the daily dozen. This has to be one of the best books of 2018. He isn’t trying to persuade you towards any particular diet. He simply provides you with all of the information you need to make the best informed decision you can for what works for you.

Irresistible: Another great book that talks about the dangers and addictive nature of technology. Adam alter dives into the depth of how much control technology can gain over our lives when given such power and playing an integral role in every minute of our lives. This past year I have learned more. I tried to become intentional to take back a lot of time that I had spent previously scrolling social media or watching tv shows.

Personal Development

Girl, Wash Your Face: This is one of the best books of 2018 according to the majority of people. Everyone has been ranting and raving about Rachel Hollis’ best seller. Right now it ranks as #2 on amazon’s books. That is no small feat. I love that she is from my hometown. You have got to check out this motivational book.

Present Over Perfect: As someone with perfectionist tendencies this book really hit home. Shauna talks about how when you let go of trying to be perfect you can truly be present with those around you. She also talks about how the less things you have the less stress. Her focus on a slow pace of living enjoying nature is exactly my style.

Education

Dumbing Us Down: One of the best books of 2018 that will be truly awakening for a lot of people. Written from the perspective of a teacher himself, and I read it as a former teacher. He gives an honest look at the public school system and what its goals really are for those who are put through the system.

People Over Profit: Such a wonderful book that brings light to how you can be successful in business without losing sight of your values and the importance of relationships.
